The Keys by Lily Edwards, age 9
Six generations living in Doddington. Here is a picture of Thomas Key and his wife Ann. Thomas was born in Doddington in 1866. He worked at the quarry as a stone worker and was laid to rest in Doddington church yard. He would have been my Great Grandad 4x removed.
Cyril James Key is the late son of Thomas Key. Sadly he died in WW1. His body was never found. His name can be found on the war memorial in Doddington church yard. This is the original letter my family received from the King. We will remember them.
This is another son of Thomas Key and brother of Cyril James, Thomas Edwin Key. He was born in Doddington in 1895. He worked in Clee Hill quarry where he was awarded a medal for 51 years service. He married in Doddington Church and was also laid to rest in the church yard in 1972.
Here is a picture of my Great Grandad, son of Thomas Key and my Great Nan on their wedding at Doddington church in 1957. He was born in Doddington in 1925 and was laid to rest in the church yard in 1973.
Here is a picture of my Nan and Grandad Linda Key and Richard Clayton. They also got married just like my Nan’s parents in Doddington in 1976. My Nan was born in Doddington in 1959 and has lived in the village all her life.
I am now 9 years old and also live in Doddington. I attend the Clee Hill Community Academy, one of the schools in the area. I have lived in Doddington from the age of 2 and I’ve enjoyed learning and finding out about my ancestors and the village I have been brought up in.
