The Woodhouses
Thomas Woodhouse possibly with his son Charles Woodhouse and wife Mary Ann in around 1856. Charles become the inkeeper at the New Inn in Hopton Wafers and would go on to have three children of his own with his wife Lucy. These were Elsie, Lucy and eldest Charles Henry.
Charles Henry Woodhouse
Charles H Woodhouse was born in Hopton wafers in 1887 and worked as a carter - probably for the quarry by the evidence of this photo we have of him. He married Constance Minton in 1913 and the couple had one son, also Charles. He enlisted into the King's Shropshire Light Infantry in June 1917 aged 30 and went to fight on the Western Front in France. He was listed as killed in action in June 1918 but his body was never found. He is commemorated on our war memorial and at Aisne, France.
charles william Woodhouse
Charles was the son of Charles H Woodhouse was born in 1914 and grew up in Corley with his parents Charles Henry and Constance. His father was called up for the First World War in 1917 when Charles was 3 years old. He never returned home, dying one year later during the Third Battle of Aisne. This picture was taken at the New Inn on Hopton Bank behind where his grandfather was innkeeper.
