New perspectives on the Clee hills
The project has allowed us to expand our knowledge of the area.
For those interested in getting out into history, Alf Jenkins MBE led a walk through Titterstone Clee Hill’s industrial past. The walk has become a route which now everyone will be able to follow as one of our trail guides.
We have also been able to showcase new technology with Heritage Innovation’s hi-tech 3D modelling of the old quarry workings. We met archaeologist Paul Belford up on the hill using his drone to survey the old crushers and concrete plants. He was kind enough to share the results which are an amazingly detailed record of their current state. It’s fascinating to compare this with archive images at Shropshire Archives.
Did you know there is another (possibly more famous) Titterstone Clee Hill? The 2020 worldwide hit video game Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has missions set on Viking Age Titterstone Clee. In this fictional Clee landscape your character has to find a magic spring, build a cairn and discover treasure in Dhustone Quarry! This alternate reality hill is now famous with gamers all over the globe. Wouldn’t it be great to have some of them visit the real Titterstone Clee?
