Making a mark on history
Beacon on the Hill project is making big strides in creating a new community space and heritage gateway in Doddington…
We are so excited to be welcoming people back to St John’s in April. So much hard work by so many people has brought us to this point.
On the 6th April we will be having a community celebration and blessing of the church. The builders will have only just left but we want to mark this new chapter in the building’s history. Our songwriter in residence Sid Peacock will be premiering new work with local musicians and much tea and cake will be served from our new facilities. Do come and join us from 3PM on Sunday 6th April.
We plan to have the church fully open again by the first week of May and are holding a preview afternoon on May 2nd. If you want to see the new heritage displays created by community groups, we would love to share the new facilities with you. Please get in touch with Celia or Jim for further information.
Production for the performance of Song of the Hill at St Laurence’s in Ludlow on May 9th has moved into a high gear. Pupils at Clee Hill school have been making props with local artists and rehearsals have begun. It will be an evening to remember as local musicians, choirs and school children come together to celebrate the unique heritage of the Clee hills.
On Saturday 10th May we have planned a walking tour exploring the prehistory of Titterstone with Matt Thomson of English Heritage. For further details and tickets please visit the website www.stjohnsdoddington.org.
The Clee hills have such a rich community heritage, if you want to get involved in celebrating this, the Beacon on the Hill team would love to hear from you. Get in touch with Jim or Celia stjohnsdoddington@gmail.com
