History United
The Clee hills have such a rich history and so much rests in people’s homes and in their memories.
A walk between four Clee Hill churches as part of Heritage Open Days and Ride and Stride.
Join us for all or just a section of this country walk through the hill landscapes of south Shropshire. The walk will be led by Rev Mark Daborn who has ministered to these parishes for many years and has a wealth of knowledge on local history. Each of the four churches was founded by a benefactor for the hard working families of this sometimes harsh environment.
The walk is part of Shropshire Historic Churches Trust’s Ride and Stride. By taking part, you can help raise funds for these and other churches in the county. All the churches will be open and offering refreshments to weary travellers.
You can follow all or part of the route individually or join the main group. If you wish to join the main group, the provisional timings are as follows, with updates given on the day via social media:
10:00 Start at St Michael at Hopton Wafers
11:45 Leave St John’s Doddington
1: 30 Leave St Mary’s Cleeton St Mary
3:30 Arrive St Mary Bitterley
This is a free event as part of the Beacon on the Hill project
If you require transport from the finish point at Bitterley to one of the start points, please book this here
